It is important to remember the connection between sugars and dental erosion. Dental erosion is a condition that arises when the tooth enamel on your teeth begins to wear away due to various processes and conditions. To help prevent erosion, it is important to eat healthily and limit the consumption of hazardous products. This is especially important with Halloween just around the corner.
As Halloween approaches, set up an effective game plan to remove all potential acidic substances from your options. Acidic foods and drinks have been shown to contribute to dental erosion. However, if you choose to consume any potentially acidic foods or drinks, make sure you do so as part of a large meal rather than as stand-alone snacks.
There are effective treatments you can use to help lower or diminish the threat of abrasion. Never brush your teeth immediately after eating or drinking a substance, as your brush and your toothpaste may be too highly abrasive to effectively do the job without further damaging your teeth. Try to use only low abrasion toothpaste and a brush with soft bristles. For additional help, product suggestions, or recommendations, visit your dentist for an oral exam and checkup.
