Single Tooth Implants
At Cloverleaf Dental Center we know that one tooth can make all the difference. Just one missing or damaged tooth can make you feel self-conscious and the center of unwanted attention. In this situation, our dentist may suggest a single tooth implant. While single tooth implants can replace just one tooth, they are also an option for restoring multiple lost teeth. During the process, the dentist will insert a titanium implant into your jawbone. Over time, the bone will grow around the implant, making it sturdy and increasing the strength of your jaw. An abutment, which may also be made of titanium or another metal will be placed on the implant. That abutment will hold the restoration, which is designed to blend in perfectly with your smile. Your jawbones and gums need to be healthy to support an implant, and in some cases a grafting procedure may be required prior to starting the procedure. After your implant has been placed, you will need to follow your post-operative instructions carefully, brush and floss your implant just as you would your natural teeth and see your dentist for your routine visits.
Implant-Supported Bridges
In the case of several missing teeth in a row, our dentist may recommend an implant-supported bridge to restore your smile. This may also be the case if your jawbone is not strong enough to support individual implants, or you have been placing a great deal of pressure on your current implants. An implant-supported bridge may also be used to replace a partial denture. The process of placing an implant-supported bridge is similar to that of regular implants, but not will require the same number of implants. The result is a restoration that is superior to a partial denture, and that feels and functions just like your natural teeth. You will need to brush and floss your bridge, just as you do your other teeth, but if you encounter problems with flossing around the bridge, you should talk with your dentist about using an interdental cleaner, a floss threader or a water flosser.
